Velvet Revolver The Rock-band Velvet Revolver is one of my favourite bands. And here are some stuff about V.R.
Velvet Revolver was formed when three former members of Guns N' Roses, Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum joined to play a bar concert for musician Randy Castillo in 2002.
They decided to form a new band that would bring the spirit of rock back to the mainstream.
The band recruited guitarist Dave Kushner, which had played with Dave Navarro (former Red Hot Chillipeppers guitarist). Kushner and Slash were former classmates. Dave have been in numerous bands such as Loaded and Wasted youth, some of the bands in which he played before joining Velvet Revolver.
The band were temporary named "The Project".
A number of lead singers auditioned for the job, Scott Weiland was at last given the job.
Scott Weiland had become friends with Duff McKagan. Originally Weiland was wanted by the band but he was still touring with Stone Temple Pilots so he declined. After the STP's split in 2003, were V.R. quick to hire Weiland as Velvet Revolver`s newest member.
Scott Weiland suggested the name "Black Velvet Revolver", after Slash suggested Revolver for the band name. From Black Velvet Revolver, Slash thought it was a mouthful and suggested "Velvet Revolver". This was done while walking to the viewing room, at Universal Studios, to see the movie "The Hulk". They considered lending the song "Set me free" to the soundtrack of the movie.
Velvet Revolver have released two albums: Contraband and Libertad. Of these two "Contraband" was the most sucessive one, it sold millions of copies.
Some of the best songs V.R. have made are: "Fall To Pieces", "The Last Fight", "Let It Roll", "Do It for the Kids", "Dirty Little Thing", "Gravedancer", "Messanger" and the Grammy-awarded "Slither".
